Waterfowl Hunting

During the Early Resident Goose Season, waterfowl hunters meet daily at the HCS before going afield as a group. This meeting promotes safety, teamwork, and improves hunting opportunities for all. 

At this coordination meeting, hunters will choose hunting sites for the morning and ensure all hunters know where they are going. We will discuss potentially matching up small groups and individual hunters to share blind/sites to reduce labor associated with setup and takedown. 

All goose hunters will leave the HCS at the same time to minimize disturbance to geese when deploying to our blinds. We strive to leave geese at rest on the water until shooting time.

-        Area D – Range 1 – (see map below). Hunters identify preferred hunting site.

-        Area D – Lake Allen – see map below. Hunters identify their intended position.

-        Area D – Pond on NW side of Road.

-        Area E – “Bailey’s Bridge”

-        Area F – New Marsh, Wood Duck Pond

-        Area K – There are a limited number of sites available

-        Area M – MR Pond/swamp

-        Area T – Blue Heron Pond – Hunters identify preferred hunting site.

-        Area Z

For Safety reasons, Blue Heron Pond (Area T) hunters should use a dog, kayak/canoe, fishing rod, or pole to place and retrieve decoys. There are deep holes in the pond. If you are using waders, use a measurement stick to check water depth and hunt with a partner. Drowning is the #1 cause of death for hunters, nationwide. Safety first!
